Listening to Paintings: Renewal and Healing with Collective Euphonia

Thursday, June 10, 2021

6:00pm - 7:00pm

In honor of Mental Health Awareness Month this past May, the local arts group Collective Euphonia created a virtual program combining music, visual art, and dance to highlight the many ways that art can support and improve mental health. The program aired on May 30 and we’re pleased to share the video here along with an introduction by Executive Director Cindy Petersen. In the introduction, Cindy is joined by the Carilion Healing Arts Program Coordinator, Katie Biddle, to discuss the ongoing partnership between Carilion Clinic and the Taubman Museum of Art.

The Healing Ceiling Tile project is one component of this rich partnership. Thanks to the talent and generosity of our local community, more than 250 tiles were painted to be installed for the enjoyment of patients within Carilion facilities. Since February of this year, the painted ceiling tiles have been displayed in the Museum and currently on display are the Best in Show tiles from all participating groups. This weekend is your final chance to see them in person so we hope you stop by! The Museum is open Friday-Saturday 10am-5pm and Sunday 12-5pm.

Collective Euphonia is a flexible ensemble of artists who specialize in multi-media, interdisciplinary programs of music, dance, visual art, drama and poetry in site-specific residencies. Follow them on Facebook @CollectiveEuphonia.
