What happens when an ancient artistic tradition is reimagined for the world we live in today?

Spend a quieter morning at the Museum exploring Reimagining Reverence: A Spotlight on Gilded Icons with Laura K. Higgins, Curator of the Permanent Collection and Deputy Director of Special Projects.

During October’s Member Hour, discover how artists across centuries and cultures have used symbolism and iconography to communicate ideas of devotion, dignity, and transcendence. Then see how contemporary artist Peter D. Gerakaris turns that tradition in a new direction, using gilded imagery of endangered and rare plants and animals to invite reflection on our relationship with nature and the changing environment.

Enjoy complimentary coffee, take your time in the galleries, and discover how a centuries-old visual language can take on entirely new meaning.
