It’s an extra special Late Night this month celebrating All She Surveys and Transcending Tradition: A Look into the History and Future of Virginia Folklife.

Transcending Tradition is a compilation of films that feature more than 30 apprenticeship teams and folklife artists from the Virginia Folklife Apprenticeship program, showcasing music, art-making, dance, community, storytelling, and more.

Join Pat Jarrett, Media Specialist from the Virginia Folklife Program at Virginia Humanities from 5:30-6:30pm in the galleries to learn more about the program’s work to sustain cultural heritage across the state.

All She Surveys features the work of 16 regional mid- to late-career women artists who have built a strong reputation outside of the Roanoke region and have never (or not recently) exhibited at the Taubman.

Meet several of these talented artists to learn more about their inspirations, artwork, and careers – they’ll be on hand in the galleries from 6:30-7:30 pm to discuss their work and answer questions.

Featured artists include Betsy Bannan, Jesi Pace Berkley, Vera Dickerson, Maryann Harman, Lucy Hazelgrove, A.D. Herzel, Jan Knipe, Pippi Miller, Ana Morales, Janet Neiwald, Joni Pienkowski, Donna Polseno, Heather Rousseau, Beth Shively, Leah Thompson, and Page Turner.

Galleries open until 9 pm.

Guitarist Grace Campbell will perform from 6-8 pm.

Free and welcoming to all – no registration required.
