Morning Muse: New Works to the Collection by Jiha Moon
Dec 10, 2026
8:00 am – 9:00 am
What do Korean folk art, pop culture, and a takeout box have in common? Artist Jiha Moon!
Shake up your morning routine with coffee, conversation, and a fresh look at two exciting new additions to the Taubman Museum of Art’s Permanent Collection.
Born in South Korea and now based in Atlanta, Jiha Moon is known for her playful, colorful works that bring together Eastern and Western artistic traditions. From Korean folk painting and calligraphy to cartoons and familiar pop culture imagery, Moon mixes unexpected influences to explore identity and the ways cultures connect.
During this special Morning Muse, discover two newly acquired works that showcase Moon’s inventive approach to printmaking. Procession—You’re on Your Way! (2011) combines flowing lines and richly layered imagery inspired by folklore and traditional East Asian painting. Take Out (2012) takes printmaking in an entirely different direction, transforming a familiar takeout container into a three-dimensional work of art.
The acquisitions also mark a meaningful reunion with an artist who has a special place in the Taubman’s history. In 2015, the Museum organized Jiha Moon: Double Welcome, Most Everyone’s Mad Here, the first solo exhibition of her work in Virginia, which subsequently traveled to museums across the country.
Come enjoy a little morning inspiration while discovering how these two works bring fresh perspectives to the Museum’s growing Permanent Collection.
