Visions of Place: Complex Geographies in Contemporary Israeli Art

Saturday, March 06, 2021 - Sunday, June 27, 2021

Visions of Place: Complex Geographies in Contemporary Israeli Art offers a unique lens through which to view and better understand the complexities of Israel.

Geography, in all its many manifestations—physical, personal, religious, political, historical, economic—is an inescapable part of Israeli life, psyche, and art.

Including works by Jewish as well as Arab, Christian, and Druze artists, the exhibition is divided into five sometimes overlapping themes: “The Past in the Present,” “People in the Land,” “Contested Geographies,” "Interventions: From Destruction to Healing,” and “Diverse Identities.”

Not only does Visions of Place offer an introduction to a realm of contemporary art that is relatively neglected on the world scene, but also its themes speak to many issues possessing universal resonance.

The exhibition will be on view in the Carilion Clinic Gallery March 6-June 27, 2021.
