Tauby the Art Detective: The Artwork of Dorothy Gillespie

Tuesday, September 29, 2020

10:30am - 10:35am

Join Tauby the Great Art Detective for another adventure, this time exploring the studio of famed artist Dorothy Gillespie, perhaps the best known artist to have come from Roanoke.

This year would have been Dorothy's 100th birthday, and her son Gary will lead you on a guided tour of her studio outside of New York City, sharing some of the artworks she created over her lifetime.

Dorothy remains the most nationally recognized artist who was born and raised in the Roanoke Valley. She taught at Radford University in the nearby New River Valley.

Dorothy's public artworks extend from New York City at the Lincoln Center all the way to Florida at the Epcot Center. We're lucky, though, that the greatest concentration of her monumental sculptures and other creations can be found here in Virginia's Blue Ridge.
