Join us for a very special evening to celebrate the life and work of Dorothy Gillespie, hosted by her son, Gary Gillespie Israel. Israel will begin the presentation with the story of Dorothy Gillespie from his unique perspective, followed by a discussion with Dr. Patrick Shaw Cable, Chief Curator and Deputy Director of Exhibitions and Collections at the Taubman Museum of Art.

Born in Roanoke, VA in 1920, Gillespie was an American painter and sculptor who had a vibrant artistic career spanning 70 years before her death at 92 in 2012. She studied at the Art Students League in New York City as well as the Maryland Institute College of Art. Gillespie was a key player in the women's art movement and is recognized as a trailblazer for many women artists during the feminist art movement in the 1960's and 1970's, as well as today.
