Historical Society of Western Virginia STEAM Pop-Up

Saturday, March 07, 2020

10:00am - 5:00pm

Free and Open to All

Join the Historical Society of Western Virginia for a STEAM (Science - Technology - Engineering - ART - Math) presentation discussing light and photography.

They will feature work by noted photographer O. Winston Link, and discuss the science behind his images to explore how he lit his night shots during the steam rail age.

You'll also get to learn how a laser interacts with mirrors and a bottle of water, how a prism shows that white light is made up of all the colors of the spectrum, and more!

Replica artifacts will be on hand to learn what life was like as a Native American or settler in the Roanoke Valley centuries ago. Kids of all ages will enjoy coloring pages and train-themed word searches and jumbles, too!

To learn more about the Historical Society of Western Virginia, the History Museum of Western Virginia, and the O. Winston Link Museum, visit their web site at https://roanokehistory.org.

This pop-up is free and open to the public as part of Roanoke Arts POP!, a winter celebration of arts and culture in Virginia's Blue Ridge.

Nearly two dozen organizations from the region will gather at the Taubman Museum of Art March 6-8 to share what makes them - and southwest Virginia - so culturally vibrant and fun. Don’t miss out!

Roanoke Arts POP! is generously supported by the Roanoke Cultural Endowment and Visit Virginia's Blue Ridge.
