Festival of Korean Letters & K-POP: Dokkaebi Dance Party!

Saturday, October 05, 2019

12:00pm - 3:00pm

Roanoke Valley Sister Cities and Taubman Museum of Art invite you to celebrate Korea’s Alphabet Day, a national holiday in Korea!

There will be information on how the Korean alphabet works and games involving Hangul: the world’s most scientific alphabet. You can participate in a Korean Haiku (Sijo) poetry workshop, take a look at 20th Century Korean Literature, hear folktales for kids involving Korean Goblins (Dokkaebi), get advice on the hottest “must see” K-dramas, and have the chance to learn a few words in Korean about your favorite K-pop group! We will also announce the winners of Roanoke’s first Kimchi Contest.

High school and college students from the Roanoke Valley will showcase their favorite K-pop choreographies at this event. Dress up and get ready to show your K-pop IQ! We’ll have quizzes and prizes.

The Roanoke-Wonju Committee offers free, noncredit bearing Korean Classes that are open to all: young and old, novice and beginner. Donations at this event will help sustain future free Korean language classes.

Want to get involved as a volunteer or participant?
You can enter a dance team for the K-pop showcase, participate in the Kimchi fermented food Contest, Sijo poetry contest, or take free Korean classes this fall!
