Close your eyes, let your imagination go, and conjure up an image of your dream car. Is it sleek and fast? Ornate and old fashioned? Whether you're Team A or B, your dream car probably has a lot more in common with the other than you know.

Get the scoop from distinguished speakers Lowell Paddock and Marcel Schmid, internationally recognized automotive experts, who will each give talks in honor of the special exhibition, Drive! Iconic American Cars and Motorcycles

Lowell Paddock, former Vice President of Planning for General Motors in several global markets, will present an illustrated overview on "Dream Cars, Concept Cars and the Creation of Yesterday's Future," diving into the creation, marketing and preservation of these American icons of design.

Marcel Schmid, Assistant Professor in the Department of Germanic Languages and Literatures at the University of Virginia, will give a talk titled "From the Turbo-Wing to the Flatscreen."

Currently working on a project on acceleration in car design, Professor Schmid will begin by looking at mass motorization in the 1950s when cars became much faster, inspiring many to believe in a future of endless acceleration. This dream affected external car design: cars in the 50s grew wings and propellers (turbine-styling), emulating airplanes and space rockets.  Professor Schmid will argue that we are now, again, on the threshold of a new age of speed.

Registration is required for these back-to-back talks.

Adults: $8 | Members free
