A Mosaic of Memories: Recalling Local Voices of the Movement
Directed by Dr. Kelley Fanto Deetz, Department of History, Roanoke College
For several months Roanoke College students interviewed local residents about their experiences growing up during the Civil Rights Movement. Rich narratives of community, Jim Crow, desegregation, inspirational icons, childhood, education, and perseverance surfaced through these dialogues exposing vivid memories of daily-life in the Roanoke Valley.
This exhibition, currently on display in the Resource Lounge, contains the full transcripts from these interviews as well as photographs of the interviewees and their icons.
To learn more about the making of this exhibiton, join us for a panel discussion with Dr. Deetz, her students, and the interviewees. Thursday, November 14th | 7:00pm | FREE
