Ways to Give

The Taubman Museum of Art needs the support of our constituencies to maintain and enhance the Museum and succeed as a vibrant center of art for the community and region we serve. You can have an immediate as well as future impact on the Taubman Museum of Art and ultimately our community through your philanthropic support. We sincerely appreciate your support of the Taubman Museum of Art.

The first way to provide more meaningful support for the Taubman Museum of Art is through an enhanced membership level or Leadership Donation. Other options for giving include memorials, endowment gifts, and planned giving. The Taubman Museum of Art welcomes gifts in many different forms and via many different methods.

The following are the most common ways to provide a gift. The Development Office is here to assist you in making an investment in the future of the Taubman Museum of Art.

By check

Make your check payable to the Taubman Museum of Art, and send to:

By credit card

We accept Visa and MasterCard. Contact the development office at 540.342.5760 to speak with a staff member who will assist you in making a credit card gift over the phone.

By pledging a gift

A pledge is a promise to make a specified payment within a specific time period. A Taubman Museum payment is requested before June 30 for the fiscal year (July 1 – June 30).

Corporate matching gifts program

Corporate matching gifts provide a wonderful opportunity to double and sometimes even triple your contribution to the Taubman Museum of Art. Please contact your company’s personnel office for specific information about your employer’s matching gift program. It is necessary in all cases for the donor to secure the proper forms from the corporation and to submit them to the Museum in order for us to receive the matching gift.

Appreciated stock

Securities such as stocks and bonds can also be used to make charitable gifts to the Taubman Museum of Art. You are entitled to a charitable deduction (both income tax and estate or gift tax) equal to the mean trading value of the securities on the date of the gift. One of the principal benefits of a gift of securities is that any appreciation is exempt from capital gains taxes.

Transfer stocks by phone

Electronic transfer is the preferred and simplest method for stock transfer. First, notify the development office at 540-204-4119, or email mstclair[at]taubmanmuseum[dot]org. If this is not done prior to a transaction, the identity of the donor may be in jeopardy and the gift may not be received into our account properly. Secondly, have your broker call Eric Pierson at SunTrust Bank 877-615-6955 or 804-270-8098 to advise him of the approximate number and value of shares you intend to give and whether you want the gift to be utilized for a special purpose.

Transfer stocks by mail

Stock certificates may be sent via certified mail to either Eric Pierson, Trust Advisor at SunTrust Bank or the Taubman Museum of Art.

To send the certificates to SunTrust Bank:

Do not write the Taubman Museum of Art’s name of the certificate.

Sign the back of the certificate.

Write a letter of instruction to SunTrust stating your intentions for them deposit the stock into the Taubman Museum of Art’s account.

To send the certificates directly to the Taubman Museum of Art:

A related stock power must be guaranteed by a bank officer or investment broker.

Do not sign or write anything on the stock certificate itself.

Place the certificate and the stock power in separate envelopes to ensure security.
