Taubman Cinema kicks off its fall season with the silent film classic, "Sunrise" – recently voted one of the top ten films of all time by the prestigious British Film Institute and directed by the acclaimed director of "Nosferatu." "Sunrise" is the powerful story of a marriage in trouble and of redemption. A man from the country is tempted by a woman from the city and contemplates murdering his own wife. 

The screening includes an introduction on "The Art of Watching Film." What separates a great film from an ordinary one? We will explore the language of film and examine the tools and techniques that filmmakers use to create meaning in their work, including lighting, composition, sound, symbolism, and perspective.

Introduction begins at 6:30pm; screening begins at 7pm. Introduction and post-screening talk-back hosted by Matthew Marshall (Visiting Assistant Professor of Film, Hollins University).
