Castaways Workshop with Artist Paul Villinski - SOLD OUT

Friday, August 18, 2017

11:00am - 12:00pm

Group Intervals: 11am, 1pm, 3pm

UPDATE: All workshops are sold out.

Join us for Castaways, an interactive community project that continues acclaimed New York-based sculptor and exhibiting artist Paul Villinski's exploration of creating something new and beautiful from discarded materials.

Through these one-hour workshops with the artist, you can cast paper birds from various molds handmade by Villinski. Once the birds are cast, they will be installed in the exhibition Farther, on view in the Carilion Clinic Contemporary Gallery.

Workshop participants are asked to bring waste papers such as cardboard boxes, paperback books, old homework, junk mail or any other type of paper to make their birds.

At the end of the exhibition in late January 2018, participants are encouraged to return to the Museum to claim their birds and take them home with them.

Each one-hour workshop is offered at 11am, 1pm, and 3pm daily Thursday, August 17 through Saturday, August 19 and on Sunday, August 20 at 1pm and 2pm.

Only five registration spots are available in each workshop to make a single bird. Friends or families are able to join in to make one bird in a single registration spot. If you choose this option, please email Stephanie Fallon at This email address is being protected from spambots. You need JavaScript enabled to view it. with your registrant names.

The cost is $20 per bird or $18 per bird for members. Advance registration for this artmaking experience is required.

Don't want to make a bird, but still want to meet the artist and watch the process? No problem! You can make a "pay what you wish" donation for the experience. No advance registration necessary for this.

Paul Villinski: Farther and Passage are supported in part by the Foundation for Roanoke Valley.
