Teen Advisory Committee [TAC] | Art Club Round Table | Summer Arts Institute | Summer Camps
Pre-K through 5th Grade School
and After-School Programs
The Taubman Museum of Art offers a variety of programs
incorporating the Art Venture interactive center, temporary
exhibitions, and the permanent collection. All school
programs are tied to the Virginia Standards of Learning,
with a particular emphasis on art and literacy for kindergarten
through 1st grade school programs. For second through
fifth grade students, lessons
provide the students with an exciting, interdisciplinary,
and interactive learning experience directly related
to a specific work of art in the Museum’s permanent
collection.
6th through 12th Grade School and
AFter-School Programs
Cross-curricular middle and high school programs are
built around temporary exhibitions and the permanent
collection. Teens in the region are
encouraged to join the Teen Advisory Committee (TAC)
in order to help create unique and fun programs for
their peers. Single visit and multi-visit programs are
offered for schools and as after-school programs for
schools and organizations. Internship opportunities
are available for high school students.
Family Programs
Family programs encourage intergenerational activities
and encourage learning as play. Family Days, offered
two times a year, are day-long free events with music
and other performances, special crafts, and hands-on
activities. Summer camps serve children from ages 5
-13, introducing them to art and culture around the
world. Interpretive materials for families are available
for selected collection objects and temporary exhibitions.
Access Programs Initiative
The Art Museum partners with social service agencies
and other organizations to offer customized programs
for developmentally disabled children and adults. These
include Art Venture programs for moderately developmentally
disabled adults, customized exhibition tours for high-functioning
developmentally disabled adults, workshops for developmentally
disabled and physically disabled children, and touch
tours..

of committed young adults from Roanoke City and
Roanoke County public and private high schools.
The committee meets once per month during the school

In addition, TAC members serve as advocates for
the Art Museum among their peers and create their
own – TAC presented events at the Taubman.
TAC is a great way for young people to get involved
in the arts community in the Roanoke Valley. Students
interested in joining TAC should contact Abbie Edens, Head of Young Adult Education at 540.204.4107
